Undoubtably, education plays an important role in reducing the number of road casualties.   Safer Roads for Cumbria has five Road Safety Officers dedicated to providing this service.   Their remit is to reach all road users, whatever their age, although much of their time is spent in road safety education in schools.

In addition to linking road safety into national curriculum topics in both primary and secondary schools and administering the child cycle training scheme, the team will also visit pre-school units and give talks to a wide variety of adult groups.

They support many of the publicity campaigns organised by the Department for Transport and work closely with the Safer Roads for Cumbria PR Coordinator to promote local road safety issues through newspapers, radio and television.

The team comprises:

David Kerry              Senior Road Safety Officer     Eden area      01768 24336
