Possession of a well maintained and roadworthy cycle can contribute to a reduction in risk.  Make sure brakes operate correctly, tyres are at the correct pressure and that the chain and components are all working correctly.

It is recognised that the wearing of a cycle helmet will not prevent accidents from happening.  However, it must be noted that a high proportion of serious cycle accidents involve head injury and that wearing a cycle helmet will substantially reduce this risk.
