The Highways Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Transport (Dft) The Highways Agency is responsible for operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport. The Agency has been operating for over ten years and our strength lies not just in our own workforce but also in the bond we have with other areas within the Department for Transport and with our extensive supply partnerships.

The key to our success is providing our customers with safe and reliable road journeys whilst reducing congestion, improving reliability and providing good quality travel information. The Agency respects the environment and in both seeking and responding to feedback from our customers ensures we meet their expectations. Our overall aim is to meet the two key public service agreement targets of reducing congestion and improving road safety.
